VALIDATION MEETING OF THE NATIONAL SOIL EROSION CONTROL REPORT
20th May 2022: In collaboration with Technical Assistance (TA) of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Rwanda, RWB has held the validation meeting of the National Soil Erosion Control Report.
Different partners from central, local governments, civil societies, development organizations, and academic and research institutions have convened for this validation meeting following RWB's recent conclusion of an ambitious 'National Soil Erosion Control Mapping' exercise.
The exercise was aimed at upgrading the 'Catchment Restoration Opportunity Mapping Decision Support System (CROM- DSS)' and generating a database that provides spatial explicit information on soil erosion control measures in #Rwanda.
RWB together with IUCN Rwanda and National Institute for Statistics (NISR) also embarked on the initiative to develop soil erosion control analytics and action plan in support for catchment and forest landscape restoration in #Rwanda.
" The Government of Rwanda would like to accelerate the erosion control with a national initiative that was developed namely 'National Program for Soil Erosion Control (NAPROSEC)' around different objectives," explained RWB's Deputy Director General, Evariste Nsabimana.
NAPROSEC objectives include increasing awareness of the soil erosion problem in the country and instigating citizen ownership and culture of soil erosion control; promoting extensive quick win actions in erosion control for landowners to prevent soil erosion, landslide, and other erosion related disasters; increasing soil productivity and avail fodder for animals and cash crops; and setting up and strengthening collective actions of task force teams at all levels (National and Local levels) assigned with soil erosion control.
