TWG: RWB’S KEY PRIORITIES AND POLICY RELATED STUDIES FOR 2021-2022 FINANCIAL YEAR HIGHLIGHTED
15th June 2021 - Rwanda Water Resources Board (RWB) and various stakeholders in the water sub-sector held a virtual Thematic Working Group (TWG) meeting to highlight RWB's key priorities and policy-related studies to be conducted for the next fiscal year 2021/2022, as well as the sector's achievements and challenges for the 2020/2021 fiscal year.
“This meeting is an opportunity to provide guidance to the water resources working groups on various aspects of the sector and ensure adequate analysis of information and data for a better understanding of priorities to be addressed under each theme,” RWB's DG Prime Ngabonziza says.
Sustainable management of natural resources and the environment to transition Rwanda to a green economy, enhanced water storage, effective governance of water resources at catchment national and transboundary levels, equitable water allocation and efficient utilization, and water-related disasters mitigated and degraded wetlands rehabilitated are five key 2021-2022 priorities highlighted.
Furthermore, six key policy-related studies will be carried out, namely the development of Akanyaru and Kivu Catchment Management Plans, the National Water Resources Master Plan, the Inter-Catchment Water Transfer Feasibility Study, Consultancy services to produce the National Water Atlas, the Muvumba Multipurpose Dam detailed design Review and Supervision, and the Masaka Dyke detailed Design.
Among the RWB's key achievements are various ongoing projects such as the Muvumba Multipurpose Dam, Floods Management in Volcanoes Area, Sebeya Landscape Restoration, Muhazi Restoration, and other water resources management related activities such as water permit applications and strategic studies that will inform the review of the National Water Resources Master Plan.
