The Lower Akagera, Upper Nyabarongo and Mukungwa catchment committees have successfully completed the formulation of the catchment’s management plan, set to be implemented over the course of the next two years.

This significant milestone was reached during meetings which took place on different occasion in March 2024. The achievement is a result of a collaborative effort among various stakeholders, including the Rwanda Water Resources Board, local government officials, environmental organizations, and water users.

The catchment management plan is designed to tackle a range of challenges, including soil erosion, floods, and water pollution, among others. With the plans finalized, it is now time to take decisive actions toward the sustainable management and preservation of the Lower Akagera, Upper Nyabarongo and Mukungwa Catchments.
