RWB’S HYBRID WORKSHOP TO REVIEW AND VALIDATE ‘MUVUMBA DAM DESIGN’
25th March 2022: A five-day hybrid workshop to review and validate Muvumba Dam Design has been held by the Rwanda Water Resources Board (RWB), Technical Advisory Committee (TAC), consultants, and stakeholders of the Muvumba Multipurpose Water Resources Development Program (MMWRDP) that will be implemented in Nyagatare District.
The three key components of the program include i) dam design review and construction supervision, ii) dam construction and power plant installation, and iii) detailed design of irrigation system and livestock water use.
"Rwanda Govovernment recognizes water as a driver for achieving economic and social transformation through improved management of irrigation schemes, improved water resources development and management, access to water supply and sanitation services, and the increased output of livestock," notes RWB's DG Dr. Emmanuel Rukundo.
The program will contribute to improving water, energy, and food security in the district, he adds.
The Government of Rwanda has received financing from the African Development Bank for Muvumba Multipurpose Water Resources Development Program.
This dam will be located in Gatunda, Karama, and Rukomo sectors with the target of securing stable water resources for agricultural and domestic water supply.
It will also particularly provide water supply for Nyagatare, Karangazi, and Rwimiyaga sectors, and water for irrigation and livestock watering in Musheli, Rwempasha, Tabagwe, Nyagatare, and Rukomo sectors.
