RWB, 2030 WRG AND WATER SECTOR STAKEHOLDERS ON THE HYDRO ECONOMIC ANALYSIS (HEA) IN RWANDA

9th June 2021 – The Rwanda Water Resources Board (RWB), 2030 Water Resources Group (WRG), and various water sector stakeholders gathered to review the Hydro Economic Analysis (HEA) for Rwanda as a strategic assessment of the water sector and identification of concrete opportunities for collective action.

The Rwanda Water Resources Board (RWB) was recently established by the Government of Rwanda to ensure better coordination of all stakeholders, proper allocation of water resources to various sectors, improved governance, empowerment and mobilization of all stakeholders, and most importantly, increased partnership for more financial resources and the development of more extensive networks of green growth infrastructure.

As a result, RWB contacted 2030 Water Resources Group to support and assist in fulfilling this massive mandate, such as partnering together to help reach the National Strategy for Transformation (NST1) target of ensuring a middle-income country through a strong partnership and improved water productivity for all sectors.

"We are partnering with 2030 Water Resources Group to create a sustainable multisector dialogue platform that includes government institutions, the public sector, and the community for designing a sustainable solution in line with proper design for grey and green infrastructure for Rwanda by 2050 and beyond," says Prime Ngabonziza, Director General of RWB.

The two institutions collaborate on three key goals: first, optimizing the involvement of the private sector and civil society in the process of water resource conservation and sustainable development; second, addressing some of the key challenges related to inefficiency in planning, resource mobilization, and green infrastructure implementation; and third, Contributing to the achievement of the National Strategy for Transformation (NST1) targets of ensuring a middle-income country through strong collaboration and improved water productivity across all sectors.

To achieve the above-mentioned goals, 2030 WRG is currently conducting a Hydro-Economic Analysis (HEA) for Rwanda.

The results of the Hydro-Economic Analysis (HEA) will be used to kick off dialogues and project proposals under a soon-to-be-established/strengthened Multi-Stakeholder Partnership (MSP), which will bring together senior leaders from the government, private sector, and civil society.

2030 WRG is a public-private-civil society partnership that helps governments accelerate reforms to ensure sustainable water resource management for their country's long-term development and economic growth.
