RWB Marks Labor Day 2026 with a Focus on Professional Excellence and Performance

May 15, 2026 – The leadership and staff of the Rwanda Water Resources Board (RWB) have gathered to celebrate International Labor Day 2026 under the national theme: "Partnering for skills, powering job creation, fostering local economic resilience."

This annual event serves as a strategic platform for RWB personnel to evaluate the institution's performance over the past year, review progress toward key targets, and address operational challenges. Ultimately, the gathering provides an opportunity to devise targeted strategies for the upcoming fiscal year to advance the board's core mission of ensuring the availability and sustainable management of water resources for Rwanda's development.

In his remarks, the Executive Chairperson of RWB, Eng. Richard Nyirishema, highlighted the significance of the day, describing it as a vital moment to value public service, recognize staff contributions to nation-building, and appreciate their unwavering dedication. He emphasized that this year’s theme carries a profound mandate specifically for the water sector.

"This theme is a powerful call to action for us," Nyirishema stated. "It demands that we double our efforts in capacity building, optimize productivity, and contribute to driving a resilient national economy. Water resources are the backbone of sustainable development, directly impacting health, agriculture, industry, energy generation, sanitation, and overall community well-being."

Eng. Nyirishema further challenged the team to use the occasion for honest professional introspection. "Therefore, our mandate is exceptional; it shapes the future of our country. This day should serve as a moment of self-reflection: Are we delivering services that satisfy our citizens? Are we working with maximum professionalism and devotion? Do we respect time and uphold the values of excellent service delivery?" he asked.

The Director General of RWB, Dr. Emmanuel Rukundo, presented a comprehensive overview of the 2025/2026 fiscal year achievements and updated the staff on the implementation status of various ongoing projects. He commended the team for their hard work and resilience throughout the year, while urging them to maintain high professional standards to accelerate both the institution's goals and national growth.

The celebration also featured a dedicated award ceremony to honor outstanding employees who demonstrated exemplary performance during the 2025/2026 period. Jean Pierre Nsengiyumva, the Water User Inspection Officer, was officially recognized and awarded as the Best Employee of the Year for his exceptional dedication and professional merit.

The event concluded with a collective reaffirmation from the entire staff to approach the upcoming fiscal year with renewed energy. By prioritizing time efficiency, innovation, and accountability, RWB employees pledged to transform these institutional reflections into tangible, high-quality, and sustainable solutions for the citizens they serve.
