RWB, KEITI SIGN WATER RESOURCES DEVELOPMENT PROJECT IMPLEMENTATION AGREEMENT
18th April 2023: The Rwanda Water Resources Board (RWB) and the Korea Environmental Industry and Technology Institute of the Republic of Korea (KEITI) signed the implementation agreement for the project titled ‘Master Plan for Water Resources Development in Mbuye, Ruhango District.’
The agreement was signed by RWB Director General Dr. Emmanuel Rukundo and KEITI Vice President Lee Woo Weon at the RWB’s headquarters on Tuesday, April 18, 2023.
Dr. Rukundo noted that this project will also ensure the sustainability of the resources and build resilience against climate change and variability.
“The establishment of a water resources masterplan will strengthen water resources management in Ruhango District to improve and sustain water supply for domestic consumption, irrigation, livestock and livestock in Ururumanza sub-catchment.”
“Ruhango is one of the districts located in the drought-prone region of Amayaga in Southern Province of Rwanda. With the rapid population growth, urbanization, and climate change, there is a direct implication on the food and water demands in this region,” he remarked.
Also in September 2022, RWB and KEITI signed the Records of Discussions regarding this project anticipated to establish concrete cooperation in the development of water resources between the two countries, as well as to explore cooperative projects.
The ceremony was attended by Dr. Emmanuel Rukundo, Director General of RWB, IM Hyunjung, Director General of KEITI, Patrick Karera, Permanent Secretary of Ministry of Environment (MoE), and other officials from various public institutions such as WASAC and REG.
