RWB hosts Validation Workshop for initial design of Flood Control Measures in Mugogo Lowland
11 June 2024: The Rwanda Water Resources Board (RWB) and various stakeholders recently conducted a validation workshop to review the initial design of flood control measures for the Mugogo lowland and contributing sub-catchments.
Prior to the workshop, a field visit took place in Mugogo lowland, , Nyiragaju area, Bikwi area, Mutera area and Karisimbi systems to assess the proposed initial design of flood control measures.
During the workshop, the consultant SHER presented proposed solutions, which included the construction of retention dams, wetland restoration, widening drainage channels, increasing the infiltration capacity of sinkholes, and landscape restoration, among other measures.
This study is being carried out as part of the Volcano Community Resilience Project, which is funded by the European Investment Bank (EIB).
