RWB HOSTS WATER RESOURCES SUBSECTORS THEMATIC WORKING GROUP MEETING

10th May 2022:The Rwanda Water Resources Board (RWB) hosted the Water Resources Subsectors Thematic Working Group Meeting on Tuesday, which brought together different institutions in the water sector.

The meeting was chaired by the Director-General of RWB, Dr. Emmanuel Rukundo, and co-chaired by the First Secretary, Water and Environment at the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Rwanda, Dr. Timmo Gaasbeek.

"In the water subsector, significant progress has been made in the five strategic objectives of RWB's ten-year strategic plan, namely water resources governance; preventing, reducing, and controlling soil erosion; availing sufficient, quality water resources for the sustainable development of Rwanda; strengthening resilience to water-related disasters; and strengthening #RWB capacity and financial sustainability, " RWB's DG stated.

He also accentuated that RWB anticipates stronger cooperation and active participation of all partners in the water sector in order to successfully implement the priorities in the next financial fiscal year 2022-2023.

The key meeting's objectives included presenting and discussing areas prioritized during the planning & budgeting process; discussing and validating the 2022/23 sector targets & related policy actions; selecting policy-related studies to be conducted in the 2022/23 fiscal year; assessing progress towards implementation of the fiscal year 2021/22 policy actions; providing the latest status on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) indicators already monitored by sectors; and reviewing the progress on the implementation of the plans & strategies to monitor the additional SDG indicators currently having clear computation methodologies.
