RWB RECEIVES IPRC KITABI STUDENTS FOR FIELD STUDY ON WATER RESOURCES MANAGEMENT INITIATIVES

23rd May 2023: 59 students from the Integrated Polytechnic Regional Center (IPRC) Kitabi in Nyamagabe District were received today by the Rwanda Water Resources Board (RWB) for their one-day field study that was aimed at exploring different water resources management initiatives.

The students who took part have courses on Wildlife and Conservation Technologies in a new approach dubbed 'Competence-Based Training/Assessment (CBT/CBA)’, which entails practical sessions for the 'Catchment Management Techniques' module.

They visited the telemetry stations for flood monitoring as well as the Yanze River for water flow measurement in the City of Kigali. They did, on the other hand, visit other water infrastructures, including the new Muhazi dyke, which runs through Gasabo and Gicumbi Districts.

Pacifique Ishimwe, a year 2 student from the Nature Conservation Department at IPRC Kitabi, commended the field study for assisting the attending students in gaining new knowledge in their respective professions.

“We are looking forward to more field studies, as they include practical sessions where students can learn more new skills and knowledge.”

This one-day field study was technically assisted by RWB’s Hydrometric Network Officer, Emmanuel Niyonzima, and Water Pollution Investigation Specialist, Anastase Niyigaba from the Water Monitoring and Quality Control Division.

It typically explored the collection and analysis of the hydrological data from manual and telemetric stations; the collection of the surface water quantity data and flows; the rehabilitation of the river banks, watershed protection, and management; forecasting tools for water demand, flood management, and soil erosion risks, among others.
