RWB HOSTS GHANAIAN PARLIAMENTARY COMMITTEE ON SANITATION AND WATER RESOURCES MANAGEMENT

The Rwanda Water Resources Board (RWB) hosted Members of Ghana’s Parliamentary Committee on Sanitation and Water Resources for a benchmarking visit aimed at strengthening bilateral learning on sustainable water resources management.

The delegation was received by the RWB Management Team, that provided an overview of Rwanda’s water sector, the national water resources context, and the country’s ongoing efforts to ensure water security for sustainable development. The visit offered an opportunity to exchange practical insights and experiences on how both countries can address emerging water challenges.

During the briefing, RWB presented key interventions currently being implemented across the country, including flood management, water storage development, catchment restoration, and water quality monitoring. The discussions also highlighted Rwanda’s regulatory framework, particularly the Water Use Permit system as an important tool for sustainable and equitable water allocation.

The delegation was also introduced to innovations and lessons learned in Rwanda’s journey toward building water resilience, underscoring the role of data-driven planning, community engagement, and integrated catchment management.

The Ghanaian delegation commended Rwanda’s structured approach and expressed interest in adapting some of the presented strategies to their national context. Both teams emphasized the importance of collaboration and knowledge sharing among countries facing similar water sector pressures.
