RWB Director General Assesses Field Progress of Volcanoes Community Resilience Project

Rwanda Water Resources Board Director General, Dr. Emmanuel Rukundo, conducted a field visit to Rubavu, Nyabihu, and Musanze Districts to monitor and assess the progress of ongoing interventions under the Volcano Community Resilience Project (VCRP).

The three-day visit, held from 30 October to 1 November 2025, focused on evaluating project implementation and strengthening coordination with local authorities.

The Volcano Community Resilience Project, supported by the World Bank and being implemented by RWB, aims to enhance sustainable water resource management, reduce flood risks, and improve community livelihoods through integrated watershed restoration in the Volcanoes region.

During the visit, the Director General engaged with district leaders, project beneficiaries, and technical teams to review completed and ongoing works, identify operational challenges, and provide guidance on improving project outcomes.

He emphasized the importance of community participation and collaboration among all partners to ensure the long-term sustainability of project interventions and the protection of vital ecosystems in the region.

The visit also served to reinforce coordination between RWB and district authorities, ensuring that field-level lessons continue to inform national planning for flood control, catchment management, and resilience building.

Through such field engagements, RWB continues to demonstrate its commitment to evidence-based monitoring and community-driven solutions for sustainable water and land resource management.
