RWB Convenes Akanyaru Catchment Management Committee to Finalize 2023/2024 Implementation Plan

September 5, 2024: The Rwanda Water Resources Board (RWB) hosted the Akanyaru Catchment Management Committee meeting which aimed at finalizing the comprehensive plan that will guide implementation activities throughout 2023/2024.

Musana Segatagara Bernard, Head of the Knowledge and Forecasting Hub Department at RWB, presided over the planning session held in Huye District.

He expressed his gratitude to the committee members for their attendance and emphasized the importance of translating planning documents into actionable steps. “We have to translate the planning documents into practical actions for catchment protection and maintenance.” He stated.

Jean Paul Habineza, Chairperson of the Akanyaru Catchment Management Committee and Vice Mayor in Charge of Economic Development in Gisagara District, underscored the need to create profitable opportunities for local residents through catchment management.

“Sustained collaboration between involved parties is essential, and accountability should be a shared responsibility,” Mr. Jean Paul emphasized.

Among the planned activities include; Preventing Overgrazing, Water Permitting Campaign, Soil Erosion Control and Buffer Zone Protection and promoting sustainable mining practices

The Akanyaru Catchment encompasses several districts: Bugesera, Kamonyi, Ruhango, Gisagara, Huye, Nyanza, and Nyaruguru.
