RWB Conducts 3rd Steering Committee for Muvumba Project

14th June 2023: The Rwanda Water Resources Board conducted the Third Program Steering Committee (PSC) Meeting for the Muvumba Multipurpose Water Resources Development Program (MMWRDP).

The meeting was chaired by Ministry of Environment Permanent Secretary, Patrick Karera.

The primary objective of the Program Steering Committee (PSC) is to provide the program’s strategic guidance.

Meanwhile, the Muvumba Multipurpose Water Resources Development Program (MMWRD) is focused on improving water, energy, food, and nutrition security by harnessing water resources for irrigation, domestic, and livestock use, and hydropower generation while ensuring the sustainability of the resources and building resilience against climate change and variability.

It is set to be implemented in Nyagatare District, Eastern Province to serve for domestic water supply, irrigation for 9,000 hectares’ command area covering Tabagwe, Gatunda, Karama, Rukomo, Nyagatare, Rwempasha, Musheri and Rwimiyaga sectors; livestock watering, and production of hydropower plant and flood control.

MMWRDP is expected to be completed in December 2027.
