New Hope for 30 households in Musanze as VCRP Delivers Cows
December 31 2025: 30 households that benefited from the Gira Inka program through the Volcanoes Community Resilience Project in Musanze District hope to improve their livelihoods thanks to the cows delivered to them.
The second phase of cow distribution to vulnerable households in Musanze District targeted 20 households in Busogo Sector and 10 households in Nyange Sector.
This initiative aims to transform livelihoods and strengthen economic and climate resilience for residents living near the Volcanoes region.
The Executive Secretary of Busogo Sector, Jean Pierre Manzi, commended the initiative as a catalyst for economic independence.
"Providing a cow is providing wealth," Manzi stated during the event. "A premium dairy breed like these costs over one million RWF, an amount out of reach for many. By receiving these In-calf heifers, residents are moving from one socio-economic level to another."
He further detailed the concrete benefits for the households: "With the production of up to 10 liters of milk a day, families can earn 5,000 RWF daily, allowing them to join cooperatives, pay for health insurance, and contribute to 'Ejo Heza. It underscores the government's commitment to prioritizing citizen welfare.”
The impact of the donation was best captured by the joy of the beneficiaries. For Nsengimana Jean Aime, a resident of Busogo Sector, receiving a cow represents a total transformation of his household’s future.
"Receiving this cow brings me more joy than I can describe," Nsengimana said. " This will act as a catalyst for my family's development. We expect to secure our nutritional health while generating a marketable surplus. Furthermore, I anticipate a significant rise in crop yields thanks to this sustainable source of fertilizer. We are deeply grateful to President Paul Kagame for this comprehensive support package including veterinary essentials, which clearly demonstrates that citizen welfare is the priority."
Similarly, Mukandayisenga Julienne from Nyange Sector noted the financial relief for her farm. "I used to have to buy fertilizer, but now I will have it at home," she explained. "I am truly grateful to the VCRP project and President Paul Kagame for this blessing."
This distribution brings the total number of cows donated in Musanze District to 56 so far. The VCRP plans to reach a milestone of 80 cows by the end of the 2025/2026 fiscal year. VCRP projects to donate 10,000 cows by the completion of the project.
