19 June 2024: Nile Akanyaru Catchment has voted the members of catchment management committee and the technical support committee which is chaired by  Mr. Jean Paul HABINEZA, the Vice Mayor in Charge of Economic Development of Gisagara District.

The Nile Akanyaru Catchment was the only level one catchment which had not yet voted the management and technical support committees.

During the meeting which took place in Huye District, members of the catchment committee elected their leader who server for the next two years.

The Catchment management committee is chaired by by  Mr. Jean Paul HABINEZA, the Vice Mayor in Charge of Economic Development of Gisagara District, deputed by Mr. Janvier GASHEMA, the Vice Mayor in Charge of Economic Development of Nyaruguru District.

Mrs. Clarisse MUNEZERO, District Animal Resources Officer of Gisagara District became the secretary, While Mrs. JEANNE D’ARC NIBAGIRWE Water and Sanitation officer of Nyanza District elected as the coordinator, deputed by Mr. EMMANUEL BYIRINGIRO, Director of Agriculture and Natural Resources Unit of Ruhango District.

Eric Bizimana, Catchment Management Specialist Rwanda Water Resources Board technical staff, designated to Nile Akanyaru Catchment Committee.

  Mr. Jean Paul HABINEZA /Vice Mayor in Charge of Economic Development of Gisagara District and Chairperson of Akanyaru catchment management committee expressed his gratitude for the trust placed in the committee. He committed to pursue values of accountability and dreaming big as Rwanda embarks on a new National Strategy for Transformation (NST2) in emerging climate change world.

Mrs RUZIGANA Pamela, Catchment Restoration and Erosion Control Division Manager of RWB, ensured that RWB will provide logistical and technical support towards the operationalization of the Akanyaru catchment committee.
