The Department is in charge of developing appropriate sets of modeling and forecasting tools for water supply and demand, flood management, and soil erosion risks.
Main Functions:
- KFH supports RWB’s short, mid and long-term planning, with water resources data provision, analytics, and insight sharing;
- KFH formulates water resources strategies, and master plans in line with the key development horizon of Rwanda NST1 and Vision 2050;
- KFH leads the hydro-economic analysis or water economics to inform investments, partnerships, and key regulatory functions of RWB such as water pricing, allocation, and use efficiency, recycling, etc;
- KFH plays key internal roles that cut across technical divisions with early appropriate modeling tools, knowledge management system, reporting of water subsector performance indicators as well as SDG6 and computation methodologies, formulation of knowledge gaps, activities to close the knowledge gaps including research and development activities, reporting of insights and publications from KFH and technical divisions;
- KFH develops and maintains key services to the community, investors, and researchers/consultants such as the flood early warning system, water portal, water resources geoportal, or hydro-database;
- KFH set baseline and targets for water availability both for surface and groundwater, demand based on water allocation models, storage, soil erosion, and flood control
KFH also collaborate with other technical divisions in:
- Flood Earlier warming system
- Water Resources Bulletins
- Water Permit system update
- The Catchment management plans
- The catchment restoration Apps and Dashboard
