The division is responsible for the establishment of flood management and water storage infrastructures to ensure that the rainfall available in the country and resulting runoff are well managed for the safety of the community and making the storages of water required for sustainable development.

FLOOD MANAGEMENT AND WATER STORAGE DEVELOPMENT DIVISION

The division is responsible for the establishment of flood management and water storage infrastructures to ensure that the rainfall available in the country and resulting runoff are well managed for the safety of the community and making the storages of water required for sustainable development.

Main Functions:

  • Establish floods management strategies;
  • Establish water storage infrastructure;
  • Examine the preparation of roads, bridges, dams, and settlements designs to ensure flood mitigation and water storage standards;
  • Monitor the implementation of flood mitigation measures and water storage during the implementation of roads, bridges, and settlements’ plans.

CONTROL OF FLOODS

  • Some methods of flood control have been practiced by RWB include soft measures (planting vegetation along water channels to retain extra water) and the construction of floodways and storage (man-made channels to divert floodwater, construction of dikes, dams, reservoirs, or retention ponds to hold extra water during times of flooding.

WATER STORAGE DEVELOPMENT

  • The main water storage system being developed by RWB is the construction of a dam which is defined as a barrier built across a watercourse for impounding
